The Municipality is looking for feedback on a Draft Backyard Hen By-law. Right now, only properties that are zoned Rural can keep hens. This new by-law would allow residents on smaller residential properties across the municipality to keep a limited number of backyard hens for personal use.
Some highlights of the by-law include:
- Limits to numbers of Hens
- 5 Hens allowed within Town Limits (described in Schedule B)
- 10 Hens allowed outside of town limits on properties up to 5 acres
- 30 Hens allowed outside of town limits on properties larger than 5 acres
- Roosters not allowed
- Sale of eggs and meat not allowed
- Coop and runs required to be enclosed
- Waste from Hens cannot be included in curbside waste pick up
- Set back requirements from water, wells, and property lines
This by-law does not effect properties that are already zoned Rural. Please contact [email protected] or call 705-507-1177 to confirm your zoning if you are unsure (Typically properties larger than 15 acres are zoned Rural).

Dear Residents, We appreciate your patience and understanding regarding the delay in issuing utility bills. We recognize that bills were not sent out earlier, and as a result, a single consolidated bill for the year 2025 will be issued.
