Request for Proposal | Roadside Grass Cutting | TMW 2026-10

The Municipality of Markstay-Warren is looking for proposals for two options for our roadside grass
cutting. The Municipality operates 212km of roadway, 195km of that roadway is in outlying seasonally
maintained and year-round maintained roads. The Municipality is looking for a solution to cut the grass
in these areas once per year around late July through August. The Municipality is currently considering
proposals for 2 service options:

Option 1: Full-service grass cutting.

Option 2: Rental equipment to perform cutting ourselves.

Questions and Answers

Question 1: is GIS data available?

Question 2: How many road signs do you have and what is the expected clearance radius around the road sign.

Answer: Our current asset management database has 392 signs listed.  The contract expects a 1m radius cleared around the signs.

Question 3: What is the expected frequency of Service

Answer: Our current level of service expects a single cutting cycle during late summer.

Question 4: Who is responsible for traffic control and what is expected.

Answer: The contractor is responsible for traffic control for the duration of the contract.  The Municipality expects the contractor to be familiar with the requirements laid out in Book 7.  The contractor will be responsible for the safety plan and temporary signage in work zones.

Question 5: Can the Municipality share the previous contract value or name of the previous contractor?

Answer: The Municipality used to cut their own shoulders and had a few poorly specified contracts in the past.  The Municipality is looking for some fresh numbers based on the current specifications.
