Road Maintenance

Road Maintenance

Markstay-Warren Road Network extends over 210 km throughout the municipality. It consists primarily of gravel roads outside the village areas and paved streets primarily found in the villages.

A list of the streets and roads form part of our municipal assets and can be found in the Municipal Asset Management Plan and By-Law 2004-28. The road classification and rate of speed could also be found within these documents and serve as part of the maintenance criteria used by the Municipality.

The Municipality follows the minimum maintenance standards that can be found under Ontario Regulation 239/02This link opens in a new window of the Municipal Act, 2001.

Markstay-Warren consists of the following classes of road:

Class 4 – Provincial Highways maintained by the Ministry of TransportationThis link opens in a new window;

Class 5 – Roadways with a posted speed of 80 Km/h (or less) and less than 999 cars per day;

Class 6 – Roadways with a posted speed of 80 Km/h (or less) and less than 49 motor vehicles per day.

Summer Maintenance

The Municipality attempts to perform summer maintenance in the most efficient manner considering the amount of non-paved surface roadways it has. Grading activities take place on a regular basis and/or on an as-needed basis.

Dust control is typically applied on non-paved surface roadways ideally in the month of June depending on the spring thaw. it is applied to the majority of the roadways at the discretion of the municipal staff.
