THE CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF MARKSTAY-WARREN

Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)/Clerk

The Municipality of Markstay-Warren is a rural municipality in Northeastern Ontario with a population of 2700 and 1300 households. Located between two (2) major centres being the City of Greater Sudbury and The City of North Bay along Highway 17 East corridor, it offers its residents an abundance of clean air, natural features, ideal boating, hiking, skiing, snowmobiling, golfing and numerous recreational amenities within or nearby our municipality making it an exceptional place to both live and work.

We are seeking a dynamic and qualified person to apply for the position of CAO/Clerk.  Reporting to the Mayor and Council, this position will provide support services and assistance to the council, its Committees and Boards. Responsible for the co-ordination and monitoring of the operation of all municipal departments and works within prevailing legislation, regulations and the municipality’s administrative policies and principles.

The position fulfills the statutory and other responsibilities of the Municipal Clerk and acts in the absence of the Treasurer to fulfill the statutory and other responsibilities of the Municipal Treasurer.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Post secondary education at a Community College level in municipal/public administration, or comparable education certification.

  • Minimum of seven (7) years experience in a senior management/administrative role with a municipality.

  • AMCTO designation or an acceptable equivalent

  • Strong knowledge of provincial legislation and policy that affects the operation of municipal government.

  • Organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and to work in a team environment

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and public relations skills

  • Proficient in use of computer software including accounting programs and Microsoft Office Suite

  • Bilingualism (French and English) would be a further asset.

Salary will commensurate at $70,684.16 as per our salary grid. The Municipality offers a comprehensive benefit package including OMERS pension plan.
